Location, location, location. Global warming is not happening in any serious or threatening way, and certainly not in any way that is out of step with nature. So concluded a comphrehensive study on all the available studies on the earth's temperature. The Middle Ages were probably much warmer than our current age, at least in the Northern Hemisphere. A Mind That Suits wonders if a lot of the screaming wasn't because the people who profit from environmental regulation tend to live in or at least frequently visit Washington, DC. We live directly under the jet stream, and the weather changes have been noted by residents since long before we figured out why. This April, the weather seems intent on reminding us of this basic fact of life. Last week, there were several almost steamy days, followed by a drizzly weekend. This morning it is doing a fair imitation of a brisk November day. Because DC is in a bog surrounded by a ridge, violent thunderstorms that are utterly typical of the South tend to pass through suburban Montgomery County, MD. Occasionally, one gets through and it really catches us unawares. A Mind That Suits was actually present when an environmental activist pointed to a rare raging storm outside as evidence of the violent weather predicted by "global warming" theory. While A Mind That Suits is cautiously environmentalist in his sensibilities, he can't help but feel that the people who say they want to protect nature really don't understand it very well.
