Which brings up the subject of our battle plan. The use of so few forces has been criticized on the grounds that it endangered the lives of our men and women. The quick success of the plan is obscuring the fact that our troops did get bogged down and supply lines were stretched thin and left unprotected. Had we been fighting a better enemy, our young people could have faced real disaster. It now seems clear that sitting directly behind our troops should have been a massive group of engineers and relief workers. The delay in getting relief has opened the door to others to step in. Yes, lightening strikes work, but they make sense only if the war is over when the shooting stops.
