A Mind That Suits
What doesn't kill me, makes me laugh... usually.
Thursday, April 24, 2003 ::: The Iraqi's Aren't Sitting Around Waiting. This morning's Journal also brings news that the long repressed Shiite majority of Iraq is mobilizing to take care of itself. In particular, the mullahs are organizing a return of looted property, with an interesting twist: people are exhorted to bring the booty to them, and they will distribute it to people in need. The Journal ran an op-ed some weeks ago by a Shiite American explaining that Shiism had spurned the political message of the larger Sunni community, and that the restoration of the two most holy cities in Shiism to freedom would mean the political mullahs of Iran would have competition. Ah, but 40 years of brutal repression seems to have convinced the Iraqi mullahs that the Ayatollah Khomeini was on to something. And they are not waiting for us to get our act in gear.
