A Mind That Suits What doesn't kill me, makes me laugh... usually.

Also, the blog for Sunday was totally excellent, and, as most readers skip out on weekends, they should go down and look at it. Trust A Mind That Suits. He knows these things.

But now this:

A check of the old "how did they find this website" list reveals that someone was indeed wondering whether Mel Gibson has found a distibutor for his "The Passion of Jesus Christ." Indeed, he has, though A Mind That Suits forgets who it is. The release date is Feb. 25, if memory serves, a perfect placement leading up to Easter, as it should. It is also a time when studios tend to avoid major releases, so it is a two-fer, and way to go, Mr. Gibson.

For those of you unfamiliar with the ways of Hollywood, there are a lot of production companies, but relatively few distributors. That is why you see several corporate logos before the beginning of a movie. One made it, the other is showing it. Icon is Mr. Gibson's very successful company. Indeed, a check of the Internet Movie Date Base reveals that he is becoming almost successful a producer as he has been an actor and director, which is saying something. But Icon does not distribute films.

A side note: the movie used to be called "The Passion," until Mr. Gibson realized that what, for 2000 years, has been the common name for the Crucifixion now evokes other, completely opposite, images. This is, unfortunately, the same reason that Steven Spielberg has not released movies called "E.T." and "A.I." Rather, with the overpoweringly brilliant Mr. Spielberg bowing to the unavoidable, they are "E.T. The Extraterrestrial" and "A.I. Artificial Intelligence." They are also both masterpieces--E.T. a shade more than AI--but the master in question realized a largish part of his target audience needs things spelled out for them. A Mind That Suits expects "The Passion of Jesus Christ" to tower over them both, and can hardly wait.
