Wednesday, January 14, 2004 :::
First timers, please go to August 10 for selection of greatest hits, and to Sept. 15 for an appreciation of Johnny Cash. The posts from the last few weeks have largely touched on my travels, the Lord of the Rings, and the war.
A Truly Bad Reason for Electing Someone President.
The Washington Post website has a short video on Dean volunteers in Iowa who are staying at a very rudimentary camp in the country. Two young volunteers reflect on why they love their man:
"He just kind of appeals to you as a more, like, a more honest alternative. He's not fake."
Other volunteer: "Mechanical."
First Volunteer: "Right. He's not mechanical. He so human; he makes mistakes. He says dumb things.
Other volunteer (with relish and appreciation): "Yyyyeesss!!"
First volunteer:I say dumb things. "
Now wait: If Bush commits the slightest malapropism, as in "misunderestimate," it disqualifies him from office, nevermind any other virtues he has, and he has a lot of them.
But we are supposed to vote for Dean because he says something stupid.
The mind reels.
At least the young lady admits she says dumb things. Such as that.
