A Mind That Suits What doesn't kill me, makes me laugh... usually.

We will return to our regularly scheduled revolution in a minute.  We will take a quick break for a grim reminder that, where there is no established party system to help regulate passions, democracy can be reduced to paralyzing farce by one wild actor.

When last we checked, Italian Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi's entire program had been reduced to his retaining office.  A Mind That Suits took a break from Italian news, only to return a week later to...exactly the same thing.  With a revolution afoot in Egypt that will have a real impact on daily life in Italy, the first 40 percent of the nightly news broadcast last night was dedicated to Silvio Berlusconi.

Any resemblance to the Summer of 1974 in the United States is entirely real.

This is a real pity, because he had a chance, even a few years ago, to enact some serious reforms.  He did, but not as much as he could.  A real lesson that, in the new age of universal media, one personality can dominate everything.

The only thing missing from this picture is a caption that says, "I am not a crook."
